THE ARTIST
Joe
Joseph “Joe” Collins was introduced to the art of tattooing in 1979, learning the tools and procedures from his mentor, Diane Chanako, an accredited fine artist who inspired his love for art. Armed with that foundation and a gift for drawing, Joe has now spent 43 years as a professional tattooist. He owned and operated American Tattoos in Sarasota, as well as Siesta Key Art Gallery, where he was a member of the merchant association. He has worked with and under the direction of medical doctors, spoke in Tallahassee when new wording was added to the Department of Professional Regulation rules, and received a letter from the State of Florida thanking him for tattooing over racially intolerant tattoos at a medical facility inside a Florida correctional institution. He also designed and invented tattoo tools and equipment. A proud father of five and grandfather of ten, he is always honored and happy to tattoo—may all your tattoos be happy ones. Call the Venice location to schedule your next tattoo with Joe.
